My daughter-in-law brought this back from the States last year. Dreadful quality -- the worst toilet paper ever:

Some time ago I posted some examples of spontaneous laughter on pop records. Here's one I thought of yesterday. Steve Darbishire the musician seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth, remembered only by music obsessives like yours truly who were around in the mid '60s. I must admit I found the two 45s of his that I heard ("Yum Yum" and "Trains Trains") a bit far-fetched! It seems likely that he reemerged as Stephen Darbishire the Impressionist painter. According to the page linked below (my emphasis), "during his twenties Stephen [born 1940] travelled in Europe and later spent a year as a missionary in West Africa. He then explored the world of popular music where he met his wife Kerry, the great-great-niece of Frederick Delius. She became a stabilizing influence and channelled all his energies into painting and also encouraged his return to Cumberland." Source: www.tuttartpitturasculturapoesiamusica.com/2012/09/Stephen-Darbishire.html"Yum Yum" (1966), apparently performed by Steve Darbishire and the Yum Yum Band, begins with a certain amount of joking around. When the actual song starts (here at 0:32), the ludicrous lyrics get the better of the first (unidentified) singer:

American humour has never really appealed to me. Okay, there's silent comedy and there's the Marx Brothers, but the more recent stuff makes no impression on me -- except for Rich Hall. Maybe something of the UK has rubbed off on him since he moved there. It was my forays into the music of Com Truise (!) that encouraged me to revisit this sketch: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Hall

Would I Lie to You? is possibly the funniest TV show I have ever seen, largely thanks to the comic geniuses of David Mitchell, Lee Mack and compère Rob Bryden but also to the generally excellent contributions made by their guests panelists. Almost as hilarious as the show itself is the fact that I've only just started watching -- and it's been going since 2007! So, lots to catch up on on YouTube. ht tps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Would_I_Lie_to_You%3F_(game_show)

I've been watching this daily and hooting at it every time. Henning Weyn dispels the myth that Germans don't have a sense of humour. Or does he? Like Rich Hall, he seems to be filtering his comedic talents though the lens of UK humour, up to and including his ridiculous accent:

Thanks for posting this. At the point where he said “I held it aloft”, I was laughing so hard I spit tea on my screen! So my friends and I call this a proper tea-spitter 😁
