Great work and find as always on that color photo.
Don’t want to derail the thread but how many board members here actually saw that lineup? Have we ever taken a survey? I know Mikie did but I really can’t say for sure who else without an educated guess. Curious to know as I’m sure it was fantastic and my first concert was Summer of ‘75 so I missed that lineup.... pretty sure it was only Carl. Mike, Al, and I think Denny.

My first concert was November, 1973, so I missed Bruce (he left early April '72) but I saw Ricky & Blondie (one month before he left!). There were only a handful of shows that featured Bruce and Blondie and Ricky on stage; one of them at St. Johns U in N.Y. in March '72. Anyway, didn't mean to derail. Klaas, back to you, man!

Well, it has been a while since I last posted in this topic. Most of my time these last couple of months was spent on writing an article on the Beach Boys in The Netherlands. And guess what? Last week it was actually published in a Dutch music magazine. Granted - not the most well-known one here, but I'm personally very fond of this magazine to which I have been subscribed to for many years. The 6-page article is a fully worked out story of the Beach Boys night concert in Amsterdam, December 1970. Although largely based on all the info I posted here previously, I was able to find additional information, interviews with and quotes from group members. I was also very fortunate to find and interview two fans that attended this concert and told me their recollections, including being on the stage that night and getting back stage. Yes, I know, it's in Dutch, so what's the use mentioning it here... well, we (me and a couple of friends) have this dream to write down a complete/definite story on the BB connection with the Netherlands (main focus 1970-73). And we hope it triggers some readers to either share their stories on the Beach Boys as well, or give us suggestions on how to bring this dream into reality.
So for now here's a picture of the mag. So who knows what comes next ?...

With this lockdown it’s a bit harder to obtain single issues as all vinyl shops that sell them are currently closed. It is possible to order by sending the publisher an e-mail. It costs a bit more for sending it through mail though. But I can PM you the details if you like.

I'm including these here because they're kind of a follow-up to my posts on page 9 of this thread. The photos were sent to me by someone who used to work at the Club Fiesta in Sheffield and show the band during their residency in December 1970. The quality isn't great on some of them, particularly the colour pics, which look to me like they might be Polaroids. The tall guy with the Brian-like hair is Paul Stevens, the resident compere at the club back in the day.

I'm not sure of the exact dates for these pics, but we can confidently pin down this performance in particular. The notated photo was I'm told taken after the show where an almost-four year old Matt Jardine had slipped his baby sitter, evaded any security and climbed a couple of dozen stone steps up to the backstage area before running on stage to be with his daddy, despite being almost seventeen years shy of being able to legally frequent a British night club at the time. This was taken whilst the novelty hadn't yet worn off, which would soon happen when Sheffield's finest, including a senior Police Inspector, turned up in a squad car to read the riot act to both band and club management, following a telephone tip-off by some killjoy who'd been in the audience.
Going by their stage outfits the other pic was most likely taken at the same show. Any ideas about the guy standing between Bruce and Alan, who appears to be tuning up a guitar? He certainly isn't dressed like the typical scruffbag roadies who repaired Bruce's keyboards on the night I saw them at the Fiesta's sister club in Stockton the previous week, neither were there any ancillary musicians on stage with them that night in Stockton.

Hi,
I've found this thread utterly fascinating, because the 1970 articles have added a lot of flesh to a story told to me by my former boss, a wonderful Dutch man called Wim (now sadly deceased and very much missed.) He once told me of the night the Beach Boys turned up so late for a gig it was the following day.
Wim's experience was slightly different to most people's, though. He worked as an orchestral coordinator for Het Concertgebouw. He was actually there that night as a ticket holding member of the public, but as soon as the news of the fog hit, he was called into action backstage.
He said he spent most of the night on the telephone. As the entire Beach Boys entourage was stranded in London, it was down to Wim to make the necessary calls from the Concertgebouw. He said he got by with an endless intake of coffee and cigarettes.
I asked about the gig itself. He said it was shambolic at first but got better. He said the atmosphere was electric - those who had stayed were exhausted but grateful to see their heroes. There was definite community spirit.
The gig finished just in time for breakfast, after which Wim went to work. He said it was the first 36 hour day he'd ever pulled.

In 1980 the Beach Boys finally returned to the Netherlands as part of their 8th European tour, the first one in 8 years (their presence at the June 1975 Midsummer Music show at the Wembley Stadium in London, and the private CBS Convention gig in July 1977 not taken into account). It also marked Dennis Wilson’s return to the group after an almost one-year suspension from due to an upstage fight during a concert between him and Mike. The tour was relatively short; only 7 gigs, followed – after an 11-day break – by a concert during the Knebworth festival. But at least they were back in The Netherlands again. A special occasion, especially if you consider that it would be their last concert in this country for many decades. Possible performance at Pink Pop (May 26th 1980) At the time a little newsfact overhere was that apparently The Beach Boys management offered the group to play at the annual Dutch pop festival Pink Pop. The organization declined that offer though, declaring that the group’s innovative music had been halted for many years and on top of that they weren’t that trustworthy when it came to fulfilling their obligations.

Yeah the Coventry photo was taken either Nov 22 1970 or the next morning for the German publication Bravo Magazine. There are also photos from the same day of the BBs playing bagpipes and flutes
Bagpipes! There you go...
And the Coventry pic in colour.
Bruce looks like he's just done a "time warp" and come straight from the location shoot for The Beatles "Strawberry Fields Forever" footage...

Just added the Western Justice album on the "Solo album Discussions subboard - Related albums". Be sure to check out a few articles there. Jack also talks about the Beach Boys of course.

Well, this article was a nice discovery. Surprising how this kind of info was openly shared 50 years ago. Mind you, the article below was actually in a national newspaper. One can't imagine that this would be possible now with the current privacy regulations. By the way, Blondies address isn't correct. I did a check on it. Probably a typo; coincidentally "43" is also Carl & Annie's number. Blondie actually lived across the street, on nr. 54 (Google Streetview is my friend ). So, that leaves one final Beach Boys address; that of Al Jardine. Based on another article I have pretty good estimation of the Jardine's first residence (there's info that hints towards a second address later on), but I have no confirmation on that yet. Algemeen Dagblad, 01/07/1972 Beach Boys in The Netherlands (have) shelter Housing shortage in The Netherlands? Give the Beach Boys a break!
