John, this thread seems to be your own personal take on successive years and probably doesn’t invite comment or participation from interlopers. If so, apologies in advance for this, and of course I’ll be happy to delete it if you get back to me in time. 1968 This was a weird year for a 15 year old who’d just had his heart broken by Jacqueline Thompson and who had been playing this song (from late 1967, but I didn’t get the LP until early ’68) on repeat for too long. Thankfully Larry Ramos and the guys healed it later that summer. And when I returned to St Mary’s RC grammar school in Darlington I was in the grown-up 5th year and like just about any enlightened rebel at the time I availed myself of one of these little red books. It was a frenetic time of ban the bomb, get out of Vietnam, and we all believed that the calming wisdom of Chairman Mao was the only sane voice across the globe. Shit for brains doesn’t come close, does it?

Peter, please feel free to post here at any time! It adds a bit to spice to the endless jk waffle... Thank you for this. I'm sure Jacqueline T would be proud of you -- she might even regret her actions and get back in touch.

Cheers John, I have a few landmark years to remember, but I promise I won't swamp your flowing narratives too much. Just now and again. During one of my occasional visits back to the old town I got talking to a friend who told me that Miss T now lives abroad with husband and family. Good luck to her, still have fond memories of being a daft teenager, but hey...she had her chance and she blew it . Probably for the best too, otherwise I might not have met the love of my life five years later.
