TWGMTR is so far removed from anything else they've done that you simply can't compare it. (At least I can't, which is why I haven't voted on it.) For what it's worth, this is my verdict of June 2012 (first lifted from "my" other forum and now reposted from earlier in this thread in an official capacity) and it hasn't changed:
Bowing out gracefully. This is how I would describe That's Why God Made The Radio by the surviving Beach Boys. In response to comments made in earlier posts in this thread [of that other forum], I do feel that up-tempo tunes would have been inappropriate to what is clearly their swansong as a band. (The idea of a follow-up is patently absurd.) There are plenty of joyous songs on board but the undercurrent is one of sadness and finality: "Summer's gone / It's finally sinking in." The Beach Boys are saying goodbye. This is a CD I feel I could play at any time, in any company. There are tracks on the original albums that would throw the casual listener and I feel the compilations of hits sell the Boys short, musically. Which is why I've never played Beach Boys records when we've had visitors -- until now. Recorded if not written more than forty years since the original Beach Boys peaked, it's fascinating to hear the nods to musical styles that have emerged since then. I'm reminded too of recent things by Peter Lacey, himself heavily influenced by Brian's Boys. (It's hard to say who is being paid the bigger compliment.) That's Why God Made The Radio has far surpassed my expectations. This is a band whose members had long gone their separate, often acrimonious ways. There can't be many who could pull off something as contrived as an anniversary album in such fine style.

Summers Gone made me cry the first time I heard it. Title track is a perfect pop hit. PCH and Think are strong songs.Spring Vacation is a nice song and makes me tap my feet. the last 3 songs are what I consider a suite and play them often.

As an fan for a very long time and one of the biggest collectors around, I must say lots of your reviews really miss the mark.

As an fan for a very long time and one of the biggest collectors around, I must say lots of your reviews really miss the mark. Please enlighten us on what our own opinions are missing? I have been a fan since 1964 and I think I have a pretty good grasp about how I feel about each and every Beach Boys album.

As an fan for a very long time and one of the biggest collectors around, I must say lots of your reviews really miss the mark. Dear hodaddy, Your post is very strange indeed. I cannot fathom why someone would take the time to troll about such a niche topic on this forum. It seems like a complete waste of time and effort. I urge you to reconsider your actions and think about the impact they may have on others. Your trolling behaviour can be hurtful and damaging to those who are genuinely interested in this community and its discussions. If you have legitimate concerns or questions, I encourage you to express them in a respectful and constructive manner. This will not only benefit you, but also the wider community, as we can engage in meaningful dialogue and exchange of ideas. Please refrain from trolling in the future, and let us focus on productive and positive discussions. Sincerely, gig. pyjamas (Mrs)

So, hodaddy, are the reviews too kind, or too rough? Too uninformed? Too detailed? Too long, too short? There’s no information whatsoever on what you are objecting to, other than they “miss the mark.”
It reminds me of when I taught a class in C++ programming, and at the end of the course, students were asked to give me feedback. One of the questions was on the length of the course. Many students objected to the length. When I asked for more information, 50% said it was too long and 50% said it was too short. So I averaged the two, and kept it exactly the same.

Considering that "hodaddy's" comment in this thread is virtually the *only* post he's offered so far for this entire forum, I don't believe we're ever going to get a meaningful response from this person. 🤷♂️

The Wikipedia entry for TWGMTR says "28 songs were written and recorded for the album" - and cites a Rolling Stone article (which doesn't say anything of the kind). Is that true, and if so, does anybody know what the 28 songs are (other than the 12 that appear on the album)?

Is that true, and if so, does anybody know what the 28 songs are (other than the 12 that appear on the album)? At least one of them was a new version of Bruce's "She Believes In Love Again". A demo of that version appeared in that compilation a few years back (name of disc currently escapes me...California Music maybe...?) where the Beach Boys and their children re-record "Add Some Music To Your Day". I also think a few tracks off of 𝑁𝑜 𝑃𝑖𝑒𝑟 𝑃𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑒 such as "This Beautiful Day" and "The Last Song" were originally earmarked for the Beach Boys' album. There was also a news package of some sort (that can be found somewhere on YouTube) filmed back during the band's 50th anniversary that briefly plays an instrumental snippet of an unreleased track. And finally Al's "Waves Of Love" had been considered for inclusion but was vetoed by Brian (and in hilarious fashion according to a 𝑅𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑆𝑡𝑜𝑛𝑒 article at the time). Not sure about the rest.

"This Beautiful Day" quotes the instrumental break from "Summer's Gone" (or maybe it's the other way around) and I suspect they were originally linked. "Think About the Days" also seems melodically connected. But then again, Brian has always recycled little elements. Even "Right Where I Belong" has bits of "Night Blooming Jasmine" and a pile of other old pieces. As an aside, I enjoy this album (That's Why God...) more than any Beach Boys album since Love You, and more than any Beach Boys solo/related project since...maybe Pacific Ocean Blue? (The Gershwin album and Carl's first album are also in the mix for me.) Part of this may be that it came out right around the time I got married, and my memories of that time are quite rosy, but I play this album every summer and love it every time.
